Our History

1996

Germany
transact GmbH is founded

At its inception, transact specialized in payment processing services, software for electronic financial transactions, prepaid top-up on PoS terminals, and PoS systems for retailers.

1999

United Kingdom, Hungary, and Poland
e-pay Ltd. is created, while sales of the first prepaid mobile vouchers on Euronet ATMs begin

e-pay limited focused on cash-based recharge, the top-up market for processing electronic purchases of prepaid mobile airtime, and long-distance calling cards. At the same time, Euronet began to sell prepaid mobile telephone vouchers on its ATM network in the United Kingdom, Hungary, and Poland.

2001

Germany

transact emerges as a prepaid pioneer

Expanding from a technical processor to a content distributor, transact partnered with
major mobile operators in Germany (Vodafone, T-Mobile, O2, E-Plus) for top-up services in more than 18,000 stores.

2003

Kansas
Euronet acquires e-pay Ltd. and transact GmbH

With these acquisitions and several more in 2003/2004, Euronet started the worldwide expansion of its prepaid processing and distribution business segment.

2007

EMEA/APAC

e-pay expands territory, adds more products

Through subsequent acquisitions between 2003 and 2010, the e-pay segment continued to expand in Europe, the U.S., the Middle East, Asia, and Brazil; and opened new offices in New Zealand, India, and Italy.

e-pay generates $500M USD annual revenues

e-pay achieved a significant milestone by generating half a billion USD in annual revenues, marking a remarkable achievement in its growth trajectory.

Euronet unifies segment through the epay brand

Euronet launched the brand “epay”, which unified all its prepaid subsidiaries and strengthened its overall prepaid processing segment. After the launch, epay expanded its business by offering digital content like iTunes in addition to new issuing and transport payment solutions.

Euronet enters the corporate incentive
and loyalty market

With the acquisition of cadooz Holding GmbH, a leading German corporate incentive company; Euronet enabled epay to further diversify its offerings into the corporate reward market.

2012

epay releases new mission statement

epay unveiled its mission of “Connecting Brands and Consumers” to emphasize the company’s vision to bridge the gap between businesses and customers through electronic payment solutions and prepaid products.

2015

epay continues to build new connections between brands and consumers

epay diversified its business through an increasing number of distribution contracts
with global brands as well as physical and digital distribution partners.

2016

epay introduces Code-to-Content (C2C) in its gaming portfolio

C2C allowed brands to distribute title-specific content in a gift card or PIN-on-Receipt format, reducing the distribution costs of CDs and plastic packaging.

2018

epay adds new geographies and digital channels

epay expanded its digital channel distribution and brand portfolio worldwide in high-volume transaction areas such as Asia and South America.

epay purchases Prezzy Card

The full operation and issuance of Prezzy was transferred to epay by a local bank provider Kiwibank, facilitating the expansion of epay’s consumer-focused product portfolio.

2021

epay generates $1B USD annual revenues

epay crossed the notable milestone of reaching one billion USD in annual revenues, reflecting its continued success and expanding market presence.

Greece
epay adds acquiring business from leading bank

Under Euronet Merchant Services, epay expanded in the Greek market when Euronet purchased the acquiring segment of Piraeus Bank.

epay introduced Skylight and Conductor.

US
epay adds services for Mobile Network Operators

epay enhanced its support for retailers and Mobile Network Operators in the US market and expanded its market share with new products such as WebPoS.
